Westinghouse Electric Company subsidiary PaR Nuclear, Inc. of Shoreview, Minn. has partnered with Hutchinson Manufacturing (HMI) of Hutchinson, Minn. to form a joint venture company named NuCrane Manufacturing, LLC (NuCrane).
NuCrane will fabricate, assemble and test specialty cranes for nuclear power plants, including the new Westinghouse-designed AP1000TM plants under construction in China and those planned for future construction in the U.S. The joint venture also will enable Westinghouse to provide large cranes to the U.S. market, where there has been no new plant construction for more than 30 years. NuCrane will complement PaR Nuclearís capabilities to provide fuel-handling equipment, outage-critical cranes and services equipment to commercial nuclear power plants worldwide and will enable synergies between the two companies to achieve shorter plant outage durations.
Located in Hutchinson, Minn., NuCrane will construct a new facility at HMIís current site. Additionally, the joint venture will create up to 50 news jobs in Hutchinson to support the business.
PaR Nuclear President Bill Burns said, "This partnership will provide Westinghouse the opportunity to manufacture cranes and specialty hoists in support of its AP1000TM nuclear plant construction worldwide. The joint venture will also provide the capabilities to deliver modification and replacements for the current nuclear fleet. We are pleased to join with Hutchinson Manufacturing in our home state and look forward to working with a company that has more than 50 years of experience in heavy fabrication and machining."
PaR Nuclear, Inc. employs approximately 200 people in the Shoreview area, in addition to a team of 17 crane experts in the Lynnwood, Wash. area through Ederer Nuclear. PaR Nuclear has a large share of the U.S. market for fuel-handling equipment and the Hutchinson partnership will create positive synergies. The Hutchinson operation will add up to 50 employees to the companyís total employment figure.
